I am doing a little happy dance around the kitchen this morning. Can you hear me gracefully moving from foot to foot? OK so I am clod hoppering about bounding around the place like a mob of kangaroos rather than gracefully leaping like a ballerina. Now don’t say mean things or I will start to sing – and you don’t want that it’s just too painful. Can you guess why? I can hear you scratch your head and puzzle… I will put you out of your agony…We are mid way through the Take a Stitch Tuesday Challenge !!!

OK I will stop all this nonsense and get on with it. So for this week – the 26th week the challenge stitch is Half Chevron.

Like chevron you can do simply oodles with this stitch particularly if you like stacking row upon row to create patterns. Beads can be added, ribbons or thread can be laced through the stitch and you are really only limited by your imagination.

You can work this stitch back to back or simply swing individual half chevrons back to back and stepping them to form patterns. I have worked a simple pattern of a single stitch but you can work them in sets of two or three etc. If you work them row upon row they form patterns and if you step the rows they form other patterns again.

The stitch can be worked on a curve and when you swing them from side to side even more interesting things happen.

These are single half chevron stitches that have been turned on their side. Once again it is easy to add beads to this formation or use it for couching. You can also work a line like this on a curve.

Finally you can work this stitch in a square which is effective as a little motif that can be repeated to build up patterns - it is great fun to do so and add beads, sequins or other stitches to enhance it further.

Don’t forget that my latest online class Sumptuous surfaces will start July 11th. (Follow the link for more information.) If you have been enjoying the challenge you may also enjoy learning how to design as well!
