This report on a A heartbreaking visit to child labor sweatshops describes where some of the major chains and department stores get their products. Items such as beaded fashion items, jewellry and Christmas decorations confirmed for me that buying fair trade products is the right way to go. The problem for me is that there is one store in Canberra that I know for sure is fair trade so that is where I spend my money. If items were marked and marketed as fair trade I am sure consumers would respond.

Perhaps, we must think about the real origin of the situation.

Couldn’t agree with you more, Sharon. We as consumers don’t often stop and try to imagine where our absurdly cheap goods come from.
