Take a Stitch Tuesday Week 28

After last weeks challenge of bullion knots I thought I had better take pity on those that have been battling with them and have this weeks Take a Stitch Tuesday Challenge stitch something easy! This week the challenge is sheaf stitch.

It is very attractive arranged in patterns and you can be creative with the ties. Dare I say you can tie this stitch with bullions. Don’t start throwing things at me it not nice but you can. You can also tie it with beads which is something you might like to try.

It is an easy and quick stitch to work and very effective particularly when you play with it a little and vary the length or number of the bars.

I don’t have this stitch in my stitch dictionary so here are the directions.

Directions on how to do Sheaf stitch

Bring the needle out at the top of where you want your stitch to be and make a vertical straight stitch. This stitch will be the middle stitch in the sheaf

Point you needle to the right bringing the needle out to the right. Pull your thread through.

Take the needle to the to the top insert the needle and make a vertical straight stitch. This stitch will be the right hand side stitch in the sheaf

Point you needle to the left bringing the needle out to the left. Pull your thread through.

Make the final vertical straight stitch. This stitch will be the left stitch in the sheaf

Point you needle to the left center of the middle straight stitch. Pull your thread through.

Thread your needle under the left straight stitch and pull the needle through.

Thread your needle under the right straight stitch and insert the needle from where the thread emerges in the middle and pull the needle through.

Pull the needle snug to make a small cross bar.

Yesterday afternoon I collapsed in a heap as I had finally finished proofing the lessons for my online class offered on Joggles.com. It has shaped up nicely to what I think will be a fun class with an emphasis on design so you can learn how to use these stitches!
