While in Sydney this weekend we took in The Art of Islam at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. What can I say except some of the pieces were absolutely exquisite. If you are Sydney sider get along to see it. Apart from relishing the textiles, I took great pleasure in the illuminated manuscripts, and wonderfully detailed Persian and Ottoman miniature paintings.

The exhibition is described as being
… the finest display of the arts of the Islamic world ever seen in Australia. It is a rare opportunity to experience rich and diverse artistic achievements from the 7th to early 20th centuries.

Sharon, wonderful exhibition, thanks for the link. Can you remember if the wonderful tree of lights was part of the exhibition, or part of the gallery setting? I’ve played the clip over, but it goes a bit fast. Thanks.

Indigo Carole yes the tree of lights was part of the exhibit - the room it is in is darkened so it makes a wonderful impact - for me it created a real mood of contemplation

Thanks, Sharon. I thought the shape was wonderful and then the canopy of lights inside. It would make a great motif in beads or stitch. Forgot to say, I hope you enjoyed your weekend.
