For the new bloggers, I have always found your blog “Mindtracks” very useful. I still have a long way to go with my own blogs, but I have found this very inspirational. I would urge anyone thinking about starting a blog, whether for the Challenge or not, to take the time to read through “Mindtracks” and pick up what they need and then go from there.
Sharon, thanks for the link to the tutorials. I think I’ve set up Google Reader for some of the TIF challenge bloggers, time will tell, LOL. I’ve taken the SLOW movement to heart,LOL, and so had better get back to the SLOW house cleaning for Christmas visitors,

I use netvibes, but it’s only for blogs I think, I haven’t tried to put in flickr or other galleries on it. I’ve actually prepared a special page for just blogs participating on Taking it further, that way I’ll be able to see progresses as they arrive (I’ve made a selection, did not put every address!!!)
I’d advise anyone to set up their favourite blogs in RSS feeds. I only discovered Bloglines a few months ago and it’s made life a lot easier, before I’d spend a few hours pointlessy clicking from one blog to another to see if they had been updated, time I could have used to make more art/textiles.
You r my Xmas angel, as I sit here at _ too late on Xmas day in Perth where it was 42 at 1pm, so God only knows what it got to. Also, having imbibed a wee too much have given self the predictable migraine but was having computer withdrawals, NB blogs and NOW I KNOW!!!!!!!!U have save d me from wanting to rip out my eyeballs , not only visiting all my lovely cyberchums, but wandering off on the glorious tangential sidetracks they give me and the ones those ones offer so temptingly. Tooo much waffle from me, got to do the RSS right now!!! Lo9ve you and enjoy your little break
Thank you so much for this information. I have gone from spending hours checking all my favorite blogs to just a few minutes a day. I knew there had to be a way to simplify but was too lazy to do any research!
I subscribe to a whole heap of blogs using something called Feedblitz – another free online thingy (I found it somewhere a couple of years ago – back when I first started blogging) – that sends me e-mail digests each day, with copies of all the new blog posts in there (or part of them, and links to the actual post – depends how the blog is set up) – but I also notice that the latest version (s?) of Microsoft Outlook/Internet Explorer have an RSS feed reader built in – all u have to do is go to a blog, or any other page that is set up to provide an RSS/etc feed, click on “tools” and hover the mouse over “Feed discovery” and click on what pops up (sometimes only one choice, sometimes more … I guess just pick one? lol) – that loads the page as a feed, then you can click on “tools” again and click on “subscribe” and then a window pops up where you can decide what else to call it/where else to put it or just leave it as it is and click “subscribe” again and your computer will check it and download anything new that is posted. (well it says it does anyway – I have not actually done that to see how well it works, because I already get the stuff via Feedblitz).
btw – If “feed discovery” is greyed out and nothing happens when you hover the mouse over it – then the page u are at probably does not have a feed … there is one blog I visit that is not set up as a feed – but feedblitz (and probably other RSS/etc readers?) will monitor the site and tell me if it has changed. (well is is supposed to – but sometimes it seems to miss things … or maybe it is just me not noticing it – LOL)
hmmmm … I might have to check out the google reader though – seeing I already have a google account that I use for gmail and my blog (my blog wasn’t part of google when I started it but google bought out blogger so now it is)
er … correction – I have just checked out google reader – LOL … I like it! LOL
(btw, I also got lost looking at a few other google things – like the photo albums – and found all my blog photos in there! LOL)
… so much for an early night! LOL
